Panic attacks are no fun at all. In fact, they can be quite debilitating. It doesn't have anything to do with being "nutso." I also recommend speaking to someone if it continues. And the other Web site that Casey mentioned is excellent.

Audrey I have been missing you around here and kept meaning to find your last post and ask where you were.
Anyway, how about some yoga, deep breathing, relaxation techniques? I am sorry you are dealing with this, I do know we all have to have new coping mechanisms now. John does deep breaths alot. I am learning how to identify my anxiety and talk about it, we both are. John is a great calming influence for me.
Regarding the DR, be informed, be careful - re - pills.
thinking of you -

I had bouts of anxiety during the beginning of my quit but they don't seem to happen anymore. I had a prescription medication which I could take on the occasions when the anxiety was out of control. However, for me, knowing that I had the medication reduced the anxiety so I rarely had to use it.
Smoking was the way we dealt with stress, anxiety, anger, etc so we are bound to panic a little bit when we take it away. The great thing is that we learn new HEALTHY ways to deal with anxiety like a walk, a cold glass of water, deep breaths, a cup of tea, etc.
It will get better....Keep on with the good work!

Yep, what my lovely stubble buddy said, Audrey. We have had lots of discussions about problems we didn't know we had because we smoked over them. Maybe this is one of those for you. You ARE NOT going to smoke so going to the doctor makes the most sense.
BTW, you definitely are nutso but that has nothing to do with panic attacks! ;p

Audrey, first off, lose that nutso theory! Lots of people have panic attacks, it is very common. It could very well be something to do with the changes in the brain since we quit. I you should check it out with your Doc! I understand exactly what you mean about not needing it, so go see the Doc, and nip it in the Bud! :)

I have been having what I believe to be panic attacks. I never had them before I quit smoking. Yes I would get in uncomfortable and nervous situations. But this is panic. It happens driving mostly. The first time in January going over a bridge (yes I have always hated heights but used to live in NJ and did the bridges to NY all the time no problem).
I have shrunken my comfort zone since I quit, partly to control my environment and my quit. So now it's like if I drive or go too far out of that environment I panic.
Lord I do not want to have a problem like this. I pray one of you will tell me that it is somewhat normal and accompanies quits for some. I would rather smoke than be nutso :(
