I understand exposure work but what should I do when attacks seem unrelated to anything?

Moochela, It has been suggested that nocturnal panic attacks are related to the anxiety you experience throughout the day. So keep challenging the anxiety you are having at this time. As for your coping strategies after the attack, they're great! Keep up with them. Danielle ________________________ The PC Support Team

Well i don't know what you can do as a preventive measure for this beyong having low anxiety during the day and relaxation routines before bed. But it seems to me that challenging your thoughts about the effects of the nighttime attacks could help you not feel like they are so bad. Like challenging the dying part or loosing control part or even the idea they will get better. I mean at least that way, if you challenge those thoughts the rest might seeem less scary! As for exposure for this i have no idea but i am sure the specialists here will be able to help you :) I hope this makes sense and it helps but one way or another the councelors here will have great advice for you :) -Diva

I tend to get them at night so how can I best challenge them? I am asleep then I wake up with an awful attack! I hug a hot water bottle now which I find really soothes me, then I practice dance steps in my mind and focus on my dance classes which I really enjoy. I breathe and tell myself that it will pass and that everything I am feeling is not dangerous. Anything else I could be doing? My main fears are that I am going to die and am going to loose control, ie the attack will get bigger and bigger and take over me!
