Hi Alison,
I go to a Support Group! It's for 6 weeks and so far it's half over. They teach you some techniques that can help you, and we discuss questions that we have and share what's helping us. It's pretty good. I'm honestly not finding it super helpful as I already know most of the things we're learning and haven't gotten any really useful new advice, but I figure that it's worth a shot, and even just knowing that others can relate and I'm not crazy is helpful! I would reccomend a similar group to others because even if it doesn't provide absolutely amazing results, it's certainly not hurting me, and I'm sure that I'm getting more out of it than I realize I am!
Please feel free to ask me more questions about it! (It's for people with any anxiety disorder or depression)

Hi Chris,
You may want to check with your local medical clinic or mental health clinic. A pharmacist may also be able to recommend something in your area. You could try doing an online search and limiting it to your area or even checking in your local directory.

The Panic Center Support Team
Hey Alison, I am on the list for a support group that starts up in September. It is run by the Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba (ADAM) - it was their website that originally led me to this one thru a link. If you haven't checked out their site yet I highly recommend it. You could even consider the support group in September.
The support group begins as a CBT program - walking and guiding you thru a CBT process week after week. That's the biggest attraction for me. Then, once you have completed the CBT program in the group, there is an ongoing support group for people who have "graduated" from the program. That is very appealing to me because I think, at least for the first few years after (I pray) getting this thing under control, I really want a way to stay with the program - keep the CBT strategies and techniques fresh in my mind. An ongoing support group of people who are all there for that same reason sounds like a really good idea.
I know what you mean about the potential for increased anxiety - when I imagine the atmosphere in a room full of people with our disorder - I can't imagine a more tense or anxiety-charged place to be! But, I think it's likely that those initial anxieties will pass as people become comfortable with each other. I am hoping there will be more benefits than drawbacks, but if I find it is just too negative an experience then it's really as simple as not going anymore, and finding a different alternative.

I attended one. But there were only two other people. I found it to be really helpful. Unfortunately they stopped going. I would really want to be part of another one. But the closest one I could find is 60 miles away from where I live. It is also at night. Since I have a phobia of driving far at night, this doesn't help me.
Just wondering if anyone out there has ever attended a ("real live" ;) )support group and how it was for them?
I'm concerned that actually being with so many panic people would make be really panicked.
