Rock, this is such a huge success - my heartfelt congratulations! You've done two of the most difficult things that anyone can do and with that are a fantastic example of how we can change our lives for the better if we steel ourselves to the task at hand.
Hope you get that last bit of weight off (I'm sure you will!) Let us know when you do

Congrats Rock! Fifty pounds are a whole, whole lot. I too have also lost weight--30 pounds since May 1st. Steelroots, the weight gain is not the trading of one addiction for another. Our metabolisms actually change when we quit smoking. Gaining 8-10 pounds is normal and, as you can see, eating can be a temporary tool for managing nicotine cravings. I think that yes it is okay for everyone to watch their wight, but taking on too much can set people up for failure when it comes to all things. In 12 Step Program, we're told one day at a time, one thing at a time and preferably one year at a time.

Yeah Rock - really happy for you and the weight loss. Congrats and keep us posted on your cholestrol #'s too.
I'm already watching my weight with my smoking quit. Don't want to go there, my quit is important but so is a healthy weight and I'm determined not to trade one habit for another.
Keep up the excellent work and watch the benefits keep on coming your way.

I'm down 50 pounds since January!!! For so many of us who quit smoking, gaining weight is one of those side effects. Well, once I had my quit down, I really decided to focus on the weight. I had been gaining before I even quit smoking. To lose weight and get healthy, I used hypnosis. Yes, it works! I'm working out 5-6x a week. I'm eating healthy. I have way less stress now. I have so much more energy too! So now I have no desire to smoke or to eat unhealthy food! I'd like to lose another 15-20 lbs, but that will be easy now! I reported in April that my cholesterol had dropped 61 points since January. I go back to the doctors in September, and I cannot wait to see what my numbers are then! When I go back to London in November nobody is going to recognize me!
My advice for those who are worried about gaining weight or for those who have gained weight, don't be discouraged. Once you have your quit down, work on the weight. You can always lose weight, but it's tough to lose lung cancer! Thanks to everybody for their support!
