Lost,
Yes and there are examples of this right here on the boards. Some of our members have never used or have decided medication wasn't the way for them.
Keep working through the program. Whether you use medication or not, the skills & strategies you learn here can help you push through.
Keep us posted.

Hey lost1,
there has to be some instances in your life that you can remember where you felt some joy or instantaneous happiness...a sense of well being after a nice shower, meal, celebration, looking at a loved one and thinking about them. I'm not saying that you should be elated most of the time, but there should be days where you feel okay. This is my first post, and I have not looked around on this site alot; but I know that medication can be important in the treatment of depression...I take it. There are some days where I am just content..not overly happy, but not "in the dark hole" either. I always describe myself as kind of "in neutral"...maybe not as bad as a flatliner. I do not know, maybe that is the best that we can hope for. I look forward to getting some valuable info from this site.

Hi Lost1,
Besides medications, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a very effective treatment for depression. This is what our online program is based on.
Try to be reassured that depression is treatable. While there are no guarantees, and success rates vary with circumstances, appropriate treatment can reduce or completely eliminate symptoms of major depression in more than 80 percent of patients. Even with relapses, recurrences can be treated effectively.
Does your current treatment involve any type of psychotherapy? Although it may take some time, finding the right combination of support, CBT, counseling and meds can make the difference.
Keep us posted,
Casey

I don't know. Occasionally I will have a good day and I wish I'd have them all the time. I think these meds are a conspiracy to push depressed people out of the way and into the shadows because they don't care and they don't want to help us. I just realized this and I don't think I'm going to take any medicine any more.
Lost1, I hope you get feeling better. Is sounds like you've really had a rough time, but maybe things will pick up soon. I know I always feel a little bit better after talking about how I feel.
I have Dysthymia and cronic depression. I function at a very basic level. I have no idea how I'm supposed to feel. What is it like not to feel down? I've been in active treatment with the VA for 6 yrs. now, been hospitalized three times & it cost me my military career.
Is there any hope when meds fail?
