MRB,
Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone. Meds are tricky and it does take some time to find the right fit for you. Great to hear your persevering to do so. Good job!

Hi Ana
Just a quick note to thank you for posting back - I found it very encouraging and helpful. Great also to hear that your meds are "kicking in" and the sluggishness is diminishing. It does take time but it's definitely a good sign.
Hope you are having a nice day too.
Best wishes
MRB :)
Hi MRB!
Thanks for sharing your story! It helps to know that one is not alone!!!
Well my meds slowly are getting into my system and the "slugishness" is fading away. But I still feel so "laaaaaaaaazy" sometimes! :o) And we can't take coffee...
I was once on Effexor too.
I agree with you, if it's working for you keep with it! I've done some really stupid things in the past concerning meds (like just stop taking them.... TERRIBLE idea) so I know better!
Once again thanks!
Have a nice Sunday! :o)
Take care,
Ana
Hi Anabela and everyone else
I think you might be interested in my recent experiences with meds. As mentioned above my doctor had previously doubled my dose of fluoxetine (generic Prozac). I had changed from venlafaxine (Efexor) about 3 months ago, effectively at my own request, as I felt that the effect of the med might be "wearing off" as I had to go on higher and higher doses. Although I think the fluoxetine was helping me I did not feel the same strong positive effect as when I was on Efexor (a couple of years ago).
I went back to my doctor on Friday and asked him if it might be a good idea to try Efexor again. He thought that it was, because of that good effect that I had before. He put me on a starting dose of 75 mg (BTW in modified release form), but thinks that he may need to increase the dose when I next see him in 3 weeks time.
I do have a good feeling about this, as in many ways I regretted coming off the Efexor, especially as the suggestion came from me! Efexor helped me much more than anything else I had ever been on and I hope that having had a "break" of some 3 months that it will do so again. If it does the break will have been a good thing, and it has proved that I can come off it easily as I know than some people find the withdrrawal effects difficult.
So I am now in a position similar in some ways to Anabela. When I first went on Efexor it started to work very quickly, in DAYS rather than the usual couple of weeks with most antidepressants! It would be nice if these meds worked instantly, but they don't of course!
I will post back again and I encourage others to pesevere with their meds and finding the right one for them as I know from my own experience that they can help greatly.
Kind regards
MRB
:)
Thanks, MRB! Your post hit home! You know the feeling when you realize others share your experiences (unfortunately not so good ones now but in time that will change!), that feeling that someone actually understands you and what you're going through!
Your post had this soothing effect on me for some reason! This program is really helping me! It's hard work but I'm finding it WORTH IT!
Today I actually felt less of a "slug" (heheheh). Let's see if that side effect keeps wearing off! It would be such an improvement in my quality of life!
Thank you for taking the time! It meant a lot!
Hugs,
Ana
Hi Anabela
Just a quick note to echo Danielle's post. My medication has also been doubled and it does take some time for the full beneficial effects to come through. Unfortunately, of course, as you know, any side effects can appear almost immediately! I also am not particularly patient, but as far as antidepressants are concerned it seems to take several weeks before the full effects come through, and I have found that this sort of time scale often applies to increases in dose as well.
I too have had problems with tiredness, sluggishness etc but have found that if the medication is the right one for me this eventually diminishes and becomes more manageable. As each day passes I hope you will notice this as well. And of course if this doen't clear up for you, your doctor may consider changing your medication. This has happened for me although I know that it's a hassle.
Hope the above is of some use. We all know how frustrating it can be coping with the side effects of meds, so your posting has helped me and I am sure others as well.
Kind regards
MRB :)
Thanks Danielle!
I know I must wait but it's hard and on top of all I'm not the most patient person in the world... But I guess I don't have a choice now.
Ana
Annabel,
It will take a little while before you start to notice the full effects. Physical activity boosts endorphines (chemicals that make you happy) and they raise energy levels.

I recently had my medication doubled. It was less than a week ago and I still haven't felt the effects of that increase but I0pve been feeling very "slugish", numb and I fall asleep very easily. How do I fight this state of inertia? It's making it hard for me to work and concentrate of the simplest tasks.
