Hi Tammie,
I competely understand. I am always afraid of running into someone I know when I go for therapy. But hopefully, if your acquaintances work in a community health center they must understand that sometimes people need help. Plus anything you say to a counselor is confidential. They won't know why you're there.
Your son will definitely pick up on your feelings. Plus you deserve to enjoy being a mom!
Take care!
Thank-you for your suggestion and support. We do have a Community Health Center and I am kinda of embarassed to go there seeing as I know people that work there A LOT of people. I also am not sure if I am going to need a GP for a diagnosis or not first. You are right about my son, I have been feeling for some time now that he is getting old enough to catch on now. He is VERY sensitive about me and I have been hiding it from him, just don't know how much longer I am going to get away with it. I get him up and off to school, yet I can't seem to get myself motivated for doing the things that I know I have got to get done. Thanks again.
Do you have a community health center in your area? That would be a place to begin that usually charges according to your income. If not, you could call some social service agencies in your town. I know it's tough when you're alone and depressed. I understand how picking up the phone and making one more call can seem so difficult but remember it's not just you who is affected by this, your son is as well and he needs his mom to take care of herself so she can take care of him! Plus depression can rob you of the good feelings that come with being a mom. You don't want to cheat yourself out of those!
Tammie,
Thank you for sharing your story. You have come to the right place! Please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find our Depression Test. This test is not a diagnostic tool and is not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice.
The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. This may better assess your situation.
If you have any question or concerns with our site or please contact Support Department at support@depressioncenter.net. We are open to any questions or concerns you may have.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Josie

I am new at this board but have already found it's onformation VERY helpful. A little background, I now from what I have read, tests online and various books, that I do have depression, although I have never been professionally diagnosed. i know also that it does run in my immediate family, Mom and Dad, both are dead, I suspect had it. I left my husband after 14 years of abuse and his alcoholism to go to a town I know noone, can't seem to get motivated to fet a job. The only thing I seem to do right is concentrate on raising my son, alone. I would like to know how do I get help and/or diagnosed. I don't have a regular docter, haven't been to one since 1995, after I had my son. Help Please?? I want to feel good again. Thanks
