stomach problems linked to stress and anxiety?

Hi Skye. When I was in the midst of my horrible year, with crippling panic, I remember posting something very similar, as my stomach was queasy for all that time, and lost a lot of weight, as when you're feeling queasy you just can't eat. I tried everything I could think of, from relaxation to over the counter remedies, nothing worked for me ( thats definately not to say it won't for you ), but then I read a book by Claire Weeks that explained why it was so clearly, that it just, to me, made perfect sense. It still obviously didn't go straightaway as I was still anxious, but it definately helped. She explained that it was just excess adrenaline, and slowly by thinking of other things, trying not think about it, and be scared of it, as I most definately was, it disappeared. It seems that we all have a symptom of stress that is peculiar to us. I know that my reaction now to awful news will affect my gut, and realised that this had always been the case, its just that my anxiety levels were so high, that the feeling was there constantly. Other people have different symtoms. I would recommend you buy a copy of any of her books, they really are excellent, try your very best not to think about it, don't be frightened by the feelings as I was, its not going to hurt you, and distract yourself if you can. All very easy to say, but so hard to do, I know. I wish you the best, and know that, with time, you will get there. You WILL wake up one morning and that awful feeling will be gone.

I also experienced those symptoms. I think they are quite common.

Hi Skye, I've experienced those symptoms in the past too. I wouldn't be surprised if they were linked. I found paying attention to my diet and reducing fatty foods helpful, as well as regular exercise. Hope you're feeling better.

Skye, Anxiety can affect your gastrointestinal system and cause symptoms like diarrhea and upset stomach, however these are very generic symptom and can be indicative of other things like the flu for instance. If symptoms persist or worsen, see your MD. Try a relaxation technique, if the symptoms you describe are related to anxiety, it may help. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi Skye! Well I can't say for the others, but I know that for me, stress brings on many stomach and intestinal problems from acid reflux, nausea to diarhea. I get that too. -Diva

hello everyone, yesterday I was feeling better about things, however, I've noticed I've been having some bad stomach problems. Such as diarrhea and this morning I woke up with a quesy stomach.:( Is this a normal physical reaction to anxiety? I was just wondering.
