A1,
Even I, who works in the field, have had to take something for depression at one time or 3. It does not mean you are bad, or sick, or stupid, or weak, or any of those things you think in your head about "needing" medication. Thank heavens there ARE medications available today, in the past there was nothing to help people in these kind of situations. Even if you had to take the medication for a long time, there is NOTHING wrong with it, honest. It is truly a chemical imbalance in the brain, and you can not fix that just because you "hold your chin up" or "keep a stiff upper lip" or "stiffen up the spine"! The receptors in the brain don't care one way or the other. They just ARE. And if medicine helps that, GREAT! Go through the doors that medicine opens! Thank heavens there are MANY doors now.
Please know that you are a wonderful, caring, friendly, and sympathetic person. You help others just by telling your story, and supporting others in their quits. Please, don't kick yourself for ANYTHING you need to help yourself feel GOOD! Not better, but GOOD! Life is wonderful, and you DESERVE to feel that way, too. OK?
