i am also on the 21 mgm patches.
i am following a programme set up by my health authority and go to weekly no smoking meetings . thank goodness they are there i would have cracked before now if it had'nt been for them.
anyway to get to the point , we are advised to go on the 21 mgm for 4 weeks then down to 14 mgm for 2 weeks then down to 7 mgm for the next two weeks.
i am going to follow this programme and at the moment i feel fine.
if i felt i was cracking on the lower dose i would go back up anything is better than the ciggs.
i think you are doing fantastic as a none smoker.
just wanted to let you know what we are advised to do. good luck from a well wisher

That's fantastic duckie....I'm kinda getting tired of the "sticky" square spots all over me. I look kind of like I have the square measels. I'm looking forward to the little patches! Way to go!!!

Thanks for all the input! I learned a lot from you all and from my doctor and pharmacist. Dr. says to go ahead at try 14mg at Day 14; if I hit trouble, go back to 21. She also says that if I don't have urges, I can try stopping the 14 at 2 weeks.
I'm not trying to rush -- I think I'm getting a little impatient and tired of the patch.
(Ha!! Then, again, I'm also one of those who rubs it a lot during the day!)

Okay, so I have a really dumb question: isn't nicotine supposed to be out of your system by Day 4? Why stay on 21 mgs for 6 weeks, if that's the only source? How come those of us on the patch can't start stepping down at Day 5? I just don't get it -- have to decide what I do after the first 2 weeks pretty soon...
Thanks!

hey duckie, I would stay on the 21mg patch if that is what you feel comfortable with.Don't let the doc try and persuade you insto reducing if you are not ready.
You will be ok
take care

Hey Duckie, You should do whatever you are comfortable with, if you feel you are not ready, you are probably right. Just my opinion.

Congrat Duckie...I have one more week of patches to go and then I'm nicotine free....I don't think stepping down to 14 mgs was nearly as hard as the first 2 weeks on the 21 mgs.
Keep up the good quit!

Hi Duckie
My kitten just deleted my entire message! She's decided that she likes SCC too!
Anyway, my Pharmacist told me that many people need to stay on the patch longer than 6 weeks and that is no problem. You might want to check with your Pharmacist...but I'd say do what feels right.
I went down to 14 mg a little bit early...but am staying on it one week longer because I am facing a big trigger weekend coming up.
Do what you need to do to keep your quit...one week extra won't matter...now 10 might??
Good luck!
Windy

Katy: "There is NO disgrace in using an aid....the object for all is the same....to stop smoking. If you use patches for 6 months and manage to quit, you have done the same thing as the person who manages to quit cold turkey. It's all about finding a way to NOT light up!"
MissyFit: "Most of us smoked a lot of years. No need of rushing through the quit process. Whatever it takes, just don't smoke. No matter what method you choose, it's simply going to take time. If we're successful, we all end up in the same place... "

Thanks, Kate & MissiFit! Very wise advice! This is my fifth quit. I use an NRT inhaler (and occasionally, a small piece of NRT lozenge when the craving becomes unbearable); and I will keep using it as long as necessary - 3 months, 6 months, a year ... don't know yet! So far, so good! :)
Cheers,
nmc
