That's right, there is nothing wrong with watching in your oppinion "dumb" tv shows. They are entertaining and if they make you feel good or take your mind off of your worries, why not?

Do whatever it is that makes you happy!

goofy, i don't understand that either, i find watching relaxing, i'm a watcher i guess. i look for art in film and there's plenty of it. have you seen any kurasawa films? roshomon - 7 samurai - throne of blood - redbeard - he was a genius filmaker and his star is my favorite actor of all time - toshiro mifune. god, what a great looking man and what a magnificent actor. he has been the inspiration of many erotic dreams over the years. sometimes i call my husband toshiro. his expressions, his longings. anyways, these films show the best and worst of people and they are beautiful to look at. they're all a lesson in humanity. of course, you gotta read em, that turns alot of people off, but worth the effort. i find them uplifting and beautiful and it gives me hope that humans aren't all superficial and greedy. as far as comedy goes, it doesn't so much float my boat, love jim carrey - especially liar liar - when he's in the bathroom "kicking his own ass" i laughed so hard i peed my pants

TV shows, movies and some music cause too much anxiety for me to handle. I like House, but I can't watch it sometimes because of the anxiety. I don't really understand this. Sometimes a song will come on the radio and I have to change it, anxiety. I'd like to take the time to figure this out. Even comedy movies create anxiety. I think I over identify with the "not knowing aspect of some shows" or "feel" the emotions like in a comedy of someone's embarassment....or something....hell, I don't know.

There is Absolutele Nothing wrong with a dumb show now and again. But if all you spend your time at are these dumb things and have nothing more to say but ... she was pretty I (I I I ) will find you extremely boring zzzzz

TV is meant to be escapist and entertaining. Some want light and relaxing and others want engaging. It depends on what your day is like and what you need to let go!!! I like fiction and good characters but really good stories with unexpected plot! So far House has kept me, Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer.

I love readin this thread! It gives me so much to think about! Must admit ( and this is my dirty little secret) I love dumb boring shows! I do! Well not all of them and not horribly dumb ones lol. But I do like them. I find them relaxing. I spend my days on the edge worrying or working with my brain trying to reach intellectual excellence. So I must admit, at night, once in a while, it feels nice to just be mindless lol! But shhhhhh, this is our secret lol!

thanks - it's true about the moving around and feeling like the outsider always looking in.....that was the description i gave to first counslor i went to about 14 years ago, when he asked so what brings you here, i didn't know about depression, anxiety, etc etc etc at that time. my mom said she was "nervous" and i was too "sensitive". then later i thought i just married the wrong man and was stressed out and unhappy....you really have to study and take the time to understand yourself - that's the bottom line. all the doctors in the world are only as good as your own open mind and willingness to go there

i think i could write a book - it's always been a fantasy. lol - dancing with the stars - the dumbing down of tv at it's finest. most of the shows i watch are on bbc - the mystery series and of course house and lost because of the great writing. loved star trek and x-files for the same reasons. great writing. i appreciate books - hope they never go out of style.....though it looks like we are going the way of matrix and we will just plug in!

I am sure you are far from boring. But being the new kid over and over again takes a lot of courage and strenght. And if it is not according to your schedule you do not have the time to integate and heal from the last move... I know about that also.

So I think you would have some facinating stories about looking at life from the outside. Also a lot of experience and maybe some early adaptations you developed to make the transistions easier. Or to check out how long the transition would last ... no point waisting energy if the parents are going to haul us out of here in 6 months?

Also, you probably discovered a world of ideas and caracters in those books. You must have seen how each author expressed their view of the world and their view of people. Even a trashy romance tells you sometime about the writer and the audience they have targeted... So boring I do not think so!

The Boring person to me is often a person who is one chit-chat subject and never goes deeper.

I watched Dancing with the Stars and the ladies were so pretty but the judges were so mean.

And why did they throw off her she was so nice? It is a program and the point is to have a winner...

so the viewers voted to throw her off... she was not enteraining.

But she was so pretty. Well did she do her dance well? What kind of dance did she do? did she do something special?

She had a nice dress and her hair was well pinned.

you are so far from superficial! the tv can sometimes be a vast wasteland and the commercials! i mute them. i know what you mean, though. did you see the big chill? i always wanted that - big group of friends with common background, knowing each other a long time and still caring for each other. i never had that. moved around too much, always the new kid, i gave up. just went home and read.....now if you want to talk about boring......that's me.

I guess it was part of my survival. I did not want to be like them. i did not want to be what they thought of me. I wanted to be like those people on TV and on the commercials, accepted, friendly, well surrounded, loved. So I had to look at what I had to work with.

I guess my creativity came in handy there.

I did not want to be superficial . I wanted to be what was being sold!!! That special something we are all looking for (when we are thinking of more than surviving the next out burst or hoping the next pan is not hot).

And high school was terribly BORING!!! I guess I passed but there was always something better to be wondering about... and in there I learned about me.
